Baba Suwe's Arrest: Nollywood Stars Condemn Baba Suwe’s Shameful Act

As most of us know, Nollywood comic actor Alhaji King Babatunde Ayinla Nurudeen Olasunkanmi Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, with substances suspected to be hard drugs concealed in his stomach
Baba Suwe was apprehended some days ago at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, by NDLEA officials as he attempted to board an Air France flight to Paris, France.
According to NDLEA sources, he was on his way to Paris to act as a master of ceremony in a naming ceremony of an Air France staff scheduled for Saturday. The Air France staff (name withheld) has also been arrested, according to NDLEA sources. Baba Suwe went through the scanning machine at the airport and substances suspected to be drugs were seen hidden in his stomach. He was said to have made his first excretion yesterday without any trace of cocaine.  Sources said he is under observation pending the time he will start excreting the drugs.
After he was arrested, sources said, he denied that he swallowed the drugs, until he went through the scanner. He could not however explain the white substances seen in his stomach.
Immediately the news broke out, popular Nollywood stars were contacted for comments about the report and none of them seems happy about it.

NDLEA airport commander, Alhaji Hamza Umar, who confirmed the actor’s excretion without drugs found in it, said he was in safe custody. According to him, “there is reasonable ground for suspicion and the actor is currently under observation. He is fine and had been eating but has not excreted.”

Here is what they had to say:

Remi Oshodi:
“Whoever is not satisfied with whatever he or she has will end up where he is not supposed to be. We are the mirror through which the society mirrors itself and as parents we should live by example. It is a big disgrace to us all.”
Sunday Omobolanle aka Pappy Luwe:
“But I can’t believe that what I am hearing is true. A friend who is in London spoke with me on phone and said that he saw the story in the on-line edition of P.M.NEWS. Sorry I will speak with you later.”
BabaJide Kosoko:
“Are you sure it is true? If it is, it is madness. It is madness I repeat. I can hardly believe the story. What else does he want in life? This is madness, complete madness I say.”
Hon. Rotimi Makinde:
“It is a rude shock. “It’s indeed a disgrace to many of us and the industry I so cherish. I reserve further comments for now until I get details.”
Tunji Bamishigbin:
“If it is true that Baba Suwe is involved in drug peddling, then he does not deserve the position and respect the Nigerian society has accorded him.It is also a big shame and it is very disappointing because the society sees us as the mirror through which they watch themselves and if we are found where we are not supposed to be, it is very shameful.”
Femi Brainard:
“This shameful act must be stopped because Wunmi was the first victim, and because she was pardoned does not mean that Baba Suwe will go scot free. What he has done is a slap on us and the entire movie industry. This time around he must be made to face the music.”
