Princess Folasade Bankole (NTA Executive) To Face Child Abuse Charges

Princess Folasade Bankole, the General Manager of the National Television Authority (NTA) in Ado Ekiti in the South West of Nigeria, has been summoned to appear before the National Agency for Prohibition of Traffic in Persons and other Related Matters (NAPTIP) in Lagos over allegations of gross child abuse, child trafficking and inhuman treatment.
A source from the state's Ministry of Women Affairs had alerted the NAPTIP office after the source witnessed several incidents of maltreatment of a young girl by the NTA General Manager, with the latest act including the pressing of a hot iron to her shoulders and fingers.
The young victim has been identified only as 16-year old Buka, from Sarki in Oyo state, whom Princess Bankole told SaharaReporters today she “collected” from her minders as a domestic help last January.
Princess Bankole said that the incident which was reported to the authorities occurred after Buka burnt one of her dresses while ironing. She said that when she approached Buka about it, the young lady "accidentally" ran into the hot iron that she (Princess Bankole ) was holding.

Asked if she had her ensured Buka received treatment following the incident, which happened three weeks ago, Princess Bankole answered that she treated her at home because the burn was insignificant, and she blamed her domestic staff for reporting her to NAPTIP. Photos of the injuries obtained by SaharaReporters, however, show a major burn to Buka's shoulder.
Sources at NAPTIP said Princess Bankole has vowed not to honor the invitation, and that she has vowed to use her connection(s) to pre-empt any inquiry.
In her conversation with SaharaReporters, Princess Bankole did not say she would not honour the invitation, or that she would use any extra-legal means, she said that she plans to be in Lagos to meet NAPTIP officials after she returns from her current trip in Abuja, however another source who claimed anonymity at the NTA said it is a routine occurrence for the General Manager to mistreat her staff and assistants. Princess Bankole was recently transferred from the NTA in Ibadan to Ado Ekiti.
