Inspector General of Police Hafiz Ringim has been ordered to go into mandatory retirement following a series of bomb attacks launched in various northern cities by members of the Islamist movement Boko Haram. An Assistant Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar, has been tipped to replace the departing IG. Ringim tendered his resignation letter to the federal government today (Wednesday).

also affected. The new IG is M.D. Abubakar, former Lagos State Commissioner of Police.
The DIGs who left with Ringim are:
Mrs. Ivy Okoronkwo, Second in Command (2i/c); Mr. Azubuko Udah DIG “A” (Administration); Audu Abubakar DIG “B” (Operations); Saleh Abubakar DIG “C” (Logistics and Supply); Alhaji Sardauna Abubakar DIG “E” (Training); and Mohammed Yesufu DIG “F” (Management Services).
