Father Kills 6-Month-old Son and Puts Body in Refrigerator

The body of a 6-month-old baby was found in a refrigerator Wednesday, and the child's father was taken into custody.
Police were called to an apartment in the 7100 block of Beechnut around 7:40 a.m. Wednesday by the father, who said he was suicidal.
Paramedics had to kick in the door of the unit when they arrived and found the father inside with several self-inflicted injuries, police said.
Once HPD arrived, investigators said the father told them his son had stopped breathing sometime Tuesday, and around 6 p.m., he'd put the body in the fridge.
Officers recovered 6-month-old Joseph Elijah Mouton's body from the refrigerator and sent it to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences for autopsy.
The father was taken to Ben Taub in police custody. Investigators said as of Wednesday afternoon, charges had not been filed.
Neighbors said the baby's parents had recently split up, and that the father was taking care of the child alone.
"I have very low regard for anyone who hurts anybody, whether it's a child or not. There are other ways to handle situations," neighbor Joseph York said.
Still, one neighbor said she never saw any signs of trouble in the home.
"No sense of any harm, no sense of danger to that child. A very happy baby, a happy father, and that's all I saw – happiness," neighbor Martha Williams said.
