NO Homo! Senate Bans same sex marriage.

A bill has been passed by the Nigerian Senate (upper house of parliament)that anyone who contracts same marriage would be arrested and charged to court. The punishment attracts jail term. Anyone seen to have also encouraged such marriage would also be punished jailed but with an option of N50,000 as fine.
The bill was sponsored by Senator Domingo Obende and 13 other senators hit a little hitch when Senator Eta Enang argued that the Criminal Code has already criminalised homosexuality in Nigeria.

David Mark, the Senate President stepped in and allowed the bill to proceed. Other senators who supported the bill included senators Victor Lar, George Thompson Sekibo, Ajayi Boroface, Gbenga Kaka, Emmanuel Bwacha and Remi Tinubu. This puts to bed the muted call for same-sex marriages in Nigeria from several quarters. Homosexuality is considered a big taboo in Africa, especially in Nigeria and in recent times, those suspected to be homosexuals have been punished in Kenya and Uganda.
